The 2017 GMC Canyon
The 2017 GMC Canyon gets more power and better fuel mileage with a brand new V6 engine. Now with three engine choices and a new Denali trim, the mid-sized truck gives buyers plenty of choices, and a vehicle that acts like a full-sized truck, but with smarter small truck thinking.
It has the comfort, convenience, ruggedness and power attributed to full-sized trucks without the big price tag or fuel syphoning mileage. And with GMC’s quiet cab, it is a serene highway cruiser as well as a capable off road punisher. Three trims, the Canyon, All Terrain, and the Denali make up the Canyon lineup.
The Canyon offers three engine choices: a 200hp 2.5L 4-Cylinder, a 181hp 2.8L Turbo Diesel, or a new 3.6L V6. The V6 brings a bit more horsepower and becomes more efficient in 2017 with new Direct Injection and Variable Valve Timing. 4WD is available on all trims and adds an extra dimension of capability. The diesel is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, while the V6 comes with an eight-speed automatic. A six-speed manual is available with the 4-Cylinder. Max trailing varies from 3,500lbs to 7,700lbs with the diesel offering the most. GM Duralife™ brakes is a patented technology that extends the life of brake rotors.
The 2017 GMC Canyon’s exterior is ruggedly handsome, bold, with a premium quality. The big chrome grille is GMC’s exclamation point and anchors its visual presence. LED headlights add to the overall look and help make the Canyon chrome shine more brightly. Several wheel sizes are offered with chrome, silver, black, and dark argent aluminum available. The bed of the Canyon focuses on versatility and usability. It offers Cargo Box storage with Corner Step rear bumper for easy access. Available is spray on liner, 13 tie down configurations, and EZ lift lowering tailgate.
Whether an Extended Cab or Crew Cab, the Canyon’s cabin is noted for its quietness. It is also durable while still being comfortable. Premium materials are available with upper trims and soft touch materials are featured in the dash and arm rest areas. Functionality is important as well. The Center Console is large with extra storage. Controls are large and easy to read, and up to 4 USB ports with a 12V charger is available.
Forward Collison alert, and Front and Rear Park assist are standard on the 2017 GMC Canyon. It also adds a Front Center Airbag – protection in the area between the driver and front seat passenger. Along with its Advanced Air Bag system, the Canyon makes standard Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, and Rear Vision Camera. Available are features that take safety to a more proactive level. There is Active Tow, Adaptive Cruise Control, Following Distance Indicator, and Rear Cross Traffic alert.
Standard technology on all Canyon trims is Rear Vision Camera, Stabilitrak, Keyless entry and start, and Bluetooth®. Available GMC IntelliLink is an integrated touchscreen infotainment system that allows for 4G WiFi hotspot, voice recognition, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as hands-free calling, and Navigation. A Tow Vision Trailering system utilizes GMC’s backup camera with dynamic graphic guidelines to help line the Canyon’s hitch to a trailer.
